DIY Floor Makeover
Another one of my craft ideas that my husband was a little iffy about, but was on board after showing him some inspiration pictures. Yes! Painting while listening to a podcast is basically therapy for me, so with the kids back in school it was the perfect time for another project.
I started off by giving the floors a good scrub with my Thieves cleaner and taping off around the base boards. I used some leftover paint/primer to use for the first layer and then did 2 coats of white chalk paint. For the stencil I used charcoal colored chalk paint with a small foam roller. The trick is to not drown the roller in paint or you’ll have a runny mess. I stenciled all of the whole tiles then trimmed the stencil to do the smaller tiles and the ones around the toilet. The stencil is pretty flexible so you don’t have to trim it. It made it a little easier getting around the tight spots behind our toilet. I finished and went back to do some touch ups before putting on 3 coats of water based Polycrylic finish in clear matte.
I absolutely loved the way this turned out! I was definitely nervous to actually paint the tile that we would see daily. But I’m so happy I took the plunge and did it. Now I’m trying to decide what I can stencil next in our home. It was easy and a lot cheaper than retiling the whole bathroom. Next on my list is deciding what color to paint the walls in there. If you have any ideas please let me know!
